On Tuesday 11th September we held a Corporate event when a team from The Halifax came to “Make a Difference Day” on the Community Garden at Bridge End. The team pruned and weeded, barrowed tons of soil and manure, built wooden raised boxes, moved railway sleepers, built an entrance with gates, painted tables and benches and raised wooden planters and planted lots of plants and vegetables.
We also had a team from Covea Insurance on the same day who built raised wooden boxes on the canal side by Bethel Street car park , fitted railway sleepers and moved tons of topsoil and manure. The teams were amazing and worked so hard and we are so lucky to have had them on our projects.
A huge thank you to Calderdale Council for their help and support with topsoil, manure and tools. Also a massive thank you to Brighouse and Rastrick Ward Forums who have very kindly supported our project at Bridge End with a Ward Forum Grant. We could not have done the project without their support.
Thank you to Millers Bar which we used as a base and for lunch etc. Rokt for their help and support and Hartleys sandwich shop. Also thanks to Severn Unival for supplying wooden crates and MJB Waste Contractors.
We had another Corporate day on Wednesday 3rd October with another team from Lloyds Bank. We continued the work which was started by Covea Insurance and again moved tons of soil and manure which had been delivered by Calderdale Council. More railway sleepers were put in at ground level so that the soil levels could be contained and raised ready for more planting, plants were split and divided and lots of vegetables, herbs, bulbs etc planted. Huge thank you to the team from Lloyds also to Millers Bar again for letting us use their facilities as a base and for refreshments. Thanks to Calderdale Council Cleaner Safer Greener for all their help and support.
There are still areas to be completed along the Bethel Street car park canal side but we are hopeful to complete the rest soon. A huge thank you to all our volunteers and corporate partners for a job well done.
